The 12th Bioeconomy Report confirms the sector's position as a critical pillar for Italy, accounting for more than 10% of national GDP and more than 8% of total employment. It is no longer merely a decarbonization initiative, but also an economic engine that creates skilled jobs in inland, rural, and coastal locations. In a complex context, the sector is a critical lever for reducing Italy and Europe's reliance on imported fossil raw materials and fragile supply chains. A strong propensity for innovation is the driving force behind the transition: over 50% of Italian organic enterprises consistently invest in research and development (R&D). The Presidency of the Council of Ministers' National Coordination Group (GCNB) is responsible for the coordination of policies and the implementation of the Italian Strategy. This group is composed of ministries, regions, and technology clusters, and it ensures communication with Europe and international fora (G7, G20, OECD, FAO) in order to promote a national excellence that integrates environmental protection and growth.
