After more than a century away from the antique market, one of the rarest and most sought-after volumes of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy makes a comeback. The exquisite volume, printed in Mantua in 1472, will be the highlight of Finarte's Books, Autographs, and Prints auction on June 25th in Rome. The auction features roughly 300 pieces, including manuscripts, autographs, and bibliographical rarities. The sale is led by Dante's magnificent Divine Comedy, printed in Mantua in 1472, which is one of the rarest fifteenth-century versions of the poem and has been out of print for nearly a century. The catalog also includes a substantial collection of humanist texts from the fourteenth century, as well as correspondence from Giovanni Verga, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Ungaretti, and Maria Montessori. Among the first editions are The Betrothed, Futurist Cuisine, Orphic Songs with handwritten dedication, and the sought-after first Italian edition of Harry Potter, which has now become a modern-day collectible.
