Less than a month after taking office, the newly elected Mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini, has revealed his strategy to tackle the perennial issue of mass tourism. During an official institutional meeting with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, Venturini introduced the urgent topics he intends to bring to the Government's table soon, starting with the refinancing of the Special Law for Venice and the industrialization of Porto Marghera by strengthening the Simplified Logistics Zone (Zls). However, the proposal that immediately sparked public debate concerns a drastic increase in the access fee for day-trippers. While the entry ticket currently fluctuates between 5 and 10 euros, the mayor's objective is to raise it to between 30 and 50 euros on designated "red-alert" days characterized by unsustainable crowds. "The goal is to tangibly discourage arrivals in Venice during certain critical times of the year," Venturini explained. The mayor has already announced that he will request an official meeting in Rome to discuss the specific details of the policy directly with the respective competent ministers.
