During his Sunday catechesis on June 21, focused on the Gospel of Matthew, Pope Leo XIV delivered a significant insight on the style that should lead Christians in their evangelistic mission. Following his pastoral visit to Pavia and Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, the Pope emphasized, citing his recent encyclical, that relying on technical tools or methodologies is insufficient to transmit the Good News: the proclamation must stem from the authenticity of a personal encounter with Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. The Pope underlined the need of integrating faith with daily living, stating that authentic witness is the result of ongoing spiritual nutrition. He also attempted to demystify the concept of contemplation, stating that it is not an experience reserved for hermits or monks, but rather an opportunity available to everyone via the pursuit of moments of silence and everyday silence before God. Citing his predecessor Francis' exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Leo XIV ultimately challenged Christian communities not to succumb to fatigue or fear in the face of modern antagonism, instead responding to hatred with love, arrogance with gentleness, and toil with endurance.
