The Boardwalk, a $150 million luxury megayacht owned by American millionaire Tilman Joseph Fertitta, ambassador to Italy and San Marino, has docked at Naples' San Vincenzo Pier. The vessel arrived in the capital of Campania after sailing through the Strait of Messina and up the Adriatic Sea during the night in order to evade the severe demonstrations that were organized by environmentalists and social centers in Venice. The vessel, a 77-meter-long, 30-meter-high behemoth weighing over 5,300 tons and transporting a private helicopter, had sparked a political uproar in the lagoon after formally requesting permission to dock in front of Piazza San Marco during the Festa del Redentore. When the vessel arrived in the Neapolitan basin, the Guardia di Finanza and the Port Authority promptly launched special surveillance and patrol services in the waters surrounding it for security purposes.
