Italy’s State Police are embracing the digital age with the launch of their official WhatsApp channel. This is more than just a tech upgrade; it represents a major shift in community policing, dubbed "Proximity 2.0." Moving forward, citizens won't just rely on patrol cars on the street or local police stations—useful updates and safety tips will be accessible right on their smartphones.
Subscribers to the channel will receive real-time updates on emerging online and in-person scams, resources on tackling bullying, cyberbullying, and gender-based violence, as well as practical information on traffic safety, public job openings, and passport or license renewals. Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative: "This new channel allows us to move swiftly through today's complex media landscape, effectively countering fake news and establishing an advanced model of prevention. True public safety is built by keeping citizens informed through direct, widespread communication." To subscribe, users can simply look up "Polizia di Stato" under the "Updates" tab on WhatsApp and tap the bell icon, or click the official direct link.
