Temperatures in Europe have recently reached dangerous levels, with maxima of 40°C (104°F) or higher. In these conditions, not only is the body stressed, but so is the mind. Such abrupt temperature changes have an impact on the body, which does not have enough physiological time to adjust. However, eight out of ten Italians continue to drink alcohol and sugary drinks and are unable to consume the three liters of water per day recommended by experts for optimum hydration in the current blazing summer weather. According to the Pool Pharma Study Center's research of a sample of 350 men and women, just 20% of those polled, predominantly women, claim to drink the necessary amount of water. Another 25% barely manage 2 liters per day, 15% manage 1 liter, and the remaining 40% don't even bother keeping track of how much water they consume each day. However, 55% of the same respondents acknowledged drinking sugary beverages to stay hydrated, and one-third continue to drink alcohol (aperitifs, wine, beer, spirits), which has the opposite diuretic effect, increasing rather than counteracting fluid loss. These behaviors have a substantial impact on hydration and electrolyte balance, which are especially crucial during the hot season. Additionally, poor eating habits have a substantial impact on hydration and well-being throughout the summer months.
