George Russell had a spectacular weekend at the Red Bull Ring, winning the Austrian Grand Prix, his second win of the season after Melbourne. A roaring Max Verstappen finished behind the Briton's Mercedes after making a strong recovery from fifth position in the upgraded Red Bull. Delayed by brake problems early in the race, he later produced the strongest race pace and strengthened his lead in the standings, where Russell now sits second, 40 points behind. Ferrari had a forgettable Sunday, hampered by significant tire management concerns with the medium and hard tires. The debut of the engine improvement (+5-7 horsepower) proved insufficient: Charles Leclerc, who began second, dropped to ninth, while Lewis Hamilton could only reach fifth, trailing Oscar Piastri's good McLaren (fourth). Isack Hadjar, another Red Bull driver, finished sixth, ahead of a disappointing Lando Norris in eighth. Several notable retirements occurred during the race, including Cadillac's quick retirement with both cars despite technical improvements, as well as Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) and Carlos Sainz (Williams), who were hampered by a malfunction with the Mercedes power unit. The circus continues on Sunday with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Russell's home race, where he hopes to repeat his success in front of his home audience.
