An American tourist family's summer Friday evening in Versilia, which was intended to be leisurely, became a half-million-euro disaster. Criminals struck in Forte dei Marmi, targeting a beautiful property in the Vittoria Apuana region that Andrea Bocelli owns and rents out for vacation. A bunch of burglars broke into the property while the tenants were out enjoying the evening between 9:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. According to preliminary accounts from the Carabinieri, the victims' carelessness aided their attack: the family allegedly neglected to securely lock the doors and forgot to arm the alarm system before leaving. The burglars quickly stole designer handbags, cash, jewelry, and high-end watches valued at least €500,000, and then left without a trace. Investigators are now carefully analyzing footage from the city's surveillance cameras, looking for details that could assist identify the gang.
