A civil union that brings together two people, two municipal administrations, and two unique Friulian center-right spirits. A historic ceremony was performed in Pordenone, when the city's mayor, Alessandro Basso (a member of the Brothers of Italy party), and the mayor of Carlino (Udine), Loris Bazzo (a League party member), entered into a civil union. This is the first union in Italy between two current mayors. The ceremony was presided by Mayor Emeritus Alvaro Cardin, a ninety-year-old pillar of the local Christian Democrat party in the roaring 1980s and 1990s, adding to the event's symbolic value. The event's political and personal significance drew a distinguished crowd of attendees. Among the guests were Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament, and his brother Alessandro Ciriani, currently a member of the European Parliament and Basso's two-term predecessor as mayor of Pordenone. Vannia Gava, the League's Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Security, was among those present. A big delegation from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Council was also in attendance, including Councilors Cristina Amirante, Riccardo Riccardi, and Fabio Scoccimarro. However, Governor Massimiliano Fedriga was missing. This event, in addition to the emotional connection, represents a new chapter in the history of regional institutions and politics.
