A President of the Republic who is not from the centre-left is no longer considered a taboo. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated this during a guest appearance on Rete 4's "10 minuti" show. During an interview with Nicola Porro, the Prime Minister stated that a right-wing Head of State would be "terrible news only for a certain establishment", emphasizing that those who aren't left-wing are not children of a lesser god and have the same rights as everyone else. According to Meloni, this principle applies to the Prime Minister's office and might also apply to the Quirinale, emphasizing that Italians will continue to have the final say. On the international front, the Prime Minister underlined the coherence of relations with the United States, describing them as stable and founded on honesty, while denouncing both current anti-American sentiments and previous views of unconditional subordination. Meloni subsequently expressed strong irritation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, describing his recent statements on military bases in Italy as "very superficial". She emphasized that the cited data is consistent with standard agreements for non-offensive activities and cautioned against the potential for third countries, such as Iran, to misinterpret the information. She also criticised members of the governing coalition, particularly MEP Roberto Vannacci. According to the chief of the Brothers of Italy party, there are no significant distinctions between the general and the opposition parties. She accused him of consistently criticizing the government and voting in accordance with the left. Finally, commenting on the government's Housing Plan, the Prime Minister acknowledged that the project would take time and has a ten-year horizon, but said she is confident that the first concrete progress will be visible before the end of the current legislature.
