A judicial earthquake has shaken the soccer world. The Milan Prosecutor's Office has filed Alessandro Bastoni, an Inter Milan and Italian national team defender, as a suspect on child prostitution accusations. According to the online edition of La Repubblica, the soccer player has been summoned to appear for questioning in the coming days. Investigators believe the player engaged in sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl in June 2020. The Nerazzurri defender's name came up as part of a big investigation into "Ma.De. Milano", an events company situated in Cinisello Balsamo whose owners are currently on house arrest for prostitution. According to the prosecution, the agency hosted "all-inclusive" evenings for VIP clients, especially soccer players, that included dinners, nightclub entrances, and private hotel meetings. Bastoni's position, however, remains far from clear. Investigators had already questioned the young woman involved as a witness, and she reportedly denied the accusation, claiming that they had no relationship. The Prosecutor's Office disagrees, citing a communication captured in a chat in which a "handyman" from the organization arranged the meeting. As part of the same inquiry, the Guardia di Finanza called three other Serie A players—Daniel Maldini, Riccardo Calafiori, and Kevin Bonifazi—who will only be heard as witnesses and are not being investigated.
