The Italian sun is shining on the courts of Wimbledon 2026. Jannik Sinner lived up to expectations, advancing to the third round of the London Grand Slam. The world number one overcame Portugal's Nuno Borges in three sets, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4, after a two-hour and thirty-one-minute match. Despite a 3-0 final deficit, the South Tyrolean faced numerous hurdles. After a clean first set on serve and a 7-4 tie-break in favour of the Italian, Borges went all out in the second set, breaking the tie-break and serving for the set at 5-4. At the critical juncture, Sinner executed an all-out effort: he saved a set point, won the counterbreak, and subsequently dominated the second tie-break 7-2. After an initial exchange of breaks in the third set, Sinner secured the final breakthrough, bringing the score to 6-4. He will now face American Jenson Brooksby. Italy's Wimbledon campaign brought smiles on the cheeks of the opening rounds, thanks to Flavio Cobolli's outstanding display of maturity. The Roman tennis player, ranked 22nd in the draw, advanced to the second round by defeating Argentine Mariano Navone in a match that was called off due to darkness the night before. Returning to the court with a two-set lead, Cobolli had to work really hard to win the fourth set and earn the victory with a total score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, 7-6. When play resumed, Navone proved extremely determined, pushing the Italian to the limit and taking a 6–5 lead before serving for the set in an attempt to force a deciding fifth. Under the most pressure, Cobolli demonstrated the mental toughness of a veteran, saving three set points in the twelfth game, forcing a tiebreak, and then cancelling out three more. At 8-8, the Roman remained composed and won the tiebreaker 10-8, capitalizing on some errors made by the Argentine. A character victory takes Cobolli into the second round, where he will meet James Duckworth from Australia.
