Bugatti and Lotus are popular brands in the United States, and a documentary film directed by Thomas Perathoner and produced by 44 Production tells their incredible story. The plot revolves around Romano Artioli, a Bolzano-born entrepreneur who is responsible for the Bugatti brand's resurgence. The narrative begins long ago: in 1952, Artioli, a twenty-year-old technician, watched in dismay as Bugatti production ended in Molsheim, France. Decades later, Artioli acquired the brand and relaunched it with Italian elegance, German engineering, and French beauty, resulting in the EB110, a real masterpiece of design and performance. He later purchased Lotus, relaunching the brand with the Elise model. The documentary also explores the more difficult chapter of the story, when new management attempted to force Artioli out of the company, only for him to react swiftly in order to pursue his ambitious vision. The film, "Romano Artioli – Reviving Bugatti", was written, directed and produced by Thomas Perathoner, already known for 4 Hunters and Das Kuckucksnest. With Harald Erschbaumer serving as director of photography, filming took place in Italy, France, Monte Carlo and the United Kingdom, in German, Italian and English. The project also drew American investment: US financier Grandave Capital invested in the documentary, describing it as "the true story of a man who rose to the pinnacle of the automotive industry thanks to the power of his vision".
