George Clooney is set to receive the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, running from September 2 to 12, 2026. "I’ve had so many extraordinary moments in Venice; it is without a doubt my favorite festival," the Hollywood icon remarked. "To receive the Golden Lion is an immense honor. It probably also means I’m getting old, but I’m okay with that."
Festival Director Alberto Barbera praised Clooney as a complete and charismatic artist. "Wearing the triple hat of actor, director, and producer, Clooney has turned a deep calling into one of the most brilliant trajectories in contemporary cinema." From his early days in B-movies to his global breakthrough in ER, Clooney built his credibility on raw talent rather than just star power. His charm, which seamlessly blends old-school Hollywood glamour with a modern sensibility, has allowed him to move across genres with incredible versatility.
His filmography boasts iconic performances in thrillers like Michael Clayton, dramas like Syriana, the blockbuster Ocean's Eleven franchise, and poignant dramas like Up in the Air. Equally impressive is his work behind the camera; directing nine feature films - including Good Night, and Good Luck and The Ides of March - Clooney has championed an ambitious, high-minded style of filmmaking that mirrors his deep commitment to social and humanitarian causes.
