Italy remains the top European tourist destination in summer 2026. According to Ministry of Tourism data, the country has a 51.2% OTA saturation rate, which is much higher than Spain (42.8%) and France (32.9%), owing to more competitive average rates. Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano have particularly strong inflows. The country's high international appeal is fueled by a 26% increase in air travel searches compared to the previous year, aided by quickly rising markets such as Poland (+76%) and Germany (+66%). This positive trend is corroborated by data from the Ministry of the Interior for the first half of 2026, retrieved from the Italian State Police's "Alloggiati web" website, which show a 4.43% increase in domestic arrivals. Calabria topped the way with an impressive +10.54% increase, followed by Umbria (+9.70%) and Piedmont (+9.22%). Foreign tourism climbed by 6.45%, with particularly strong performances in the southern regions.
