Another significant diplomatic step toward the stabilization of the Israeli-Lebanese border. The next round of bilateral discussions between Israel and Lebanon will take place in Rome next week, on July 15 and 16. The announcement was made by Yechiel Leiter, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, at a meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, and was officially confirmed by the Israeli Embassy. The meeting in the capital, which will again be attended by ambassadors and technical teams, will focus on the practical implementation of the "Trilateral Framework," the 14-point agreement inked in Washington on June 26. However, the negotiations appear to be a losing battle: the document, mediated by the United States to define borders and security in southern Lebanon, is currently not recognized by Hezbollah militias, who have deemed it meaningless. The Rome talks will mark a watershed moment in geopolitics, leading up to another critical conference on the Washington-Beirut axis. Ambassador Leiter confirmed that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun will fly to the White House on July 21 to meet with President Donald Trump, a critical face-to-face meeting to guarantee the agreement's framework and specify American support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
