Summer reinforces Italians' desire to travel, but it also introduces the market to a more cautious visitor. According to TTG Italia, a renowned tourist newspaper, 62% of Italians' travel decisions this summer will be influenced by the international situation, while 68% intend to travel at least once in the following months. The first effect is on the destination map: 59% of respondents are selecting domestic destinations, 24% are considering Europe, and 17% are planning an intercontinental travel. Thus, the market is not experiencing a decrease in demand; rather, it is undergoing a reallocation of preferences as a result of the pressure of costs and uncertainty. Price is a consideration throughout the buying process. To keep costs down, 31% of Italians choose less expensive hotels, 27% choose closer destinations, 23% reduce spending on meals and activities, 19% prefer low-season departures, and 18% choose shorter stays. However, the new geography of demand is also climate-dependent. The trend of "coolcationing" is increasing interest in cooler destinations, with summer mountains gaining popularity as a destination for wellbeing and freedom.
