The Bari Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into Aurelio and Luigi De Laurentiis, the heads of Napoli and Bari, both owned by the family holding company Filmauro. The Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) conducted searches at both clubs' and Filmauro's offices upon the request of magistrates. Luigi, Bari's sole director, and his father, Aurelio, Napoli's president, are being investigated for making misleading corporate disclosures about Bari's 2024 financial statements and alleged phony bankruptcy. Investigators believe the Apulian club is facing a significant financial catastrophe, with losses totaling €30 million between 2019 and 2025. The appeal for judicial liquidation owing to insolvency, as well as the €2.2 million transfer of goalkeeper Elia Caprile from Bari to Napoli in 2023, are also under review. According to the prosecution, the transaction deprived Bari of a significant potential capital gain (about €7 million), which Napoli later achieved by selling the player to Cagliari for €8 million after a loan spell at Empoli. Napoli's answer was quick. The clubs and the De Laurentiis family declared in an official statement that they were "shocked" by the charges. The club justified the Caprile transaction, stating that the goalkeeper's worth had been determined by an unbiased and authoritative third-party expert. The statement continues, "Bari's request for liquidation is astonishing", as they describe it as a "club that is absolutely respectful of its commitments, whose losses are systematically covered by the owners". The De Laurentiis family is confident that the matter will be quickly clarified and resolved.
