"Let the peace of Christ reign in your hearts". This is the essence of the video message Pope Leo XIV addressed to the youth assembled in Erbil for the Ankawa Youth Meeting (AYM), a big gathering of young Iraqi Christians that will continue until Saturday. In a complex world marked by years of conflict and instability, the Pontiff wants to make his presence known, asking participants not to succumb to fear in the face of a darkness that can appear overwhelming. The Pope's reflection is on the theme of "mission". For Leo XIV, the new generations represent more than just tomorrow; they are the "present of the Church" and the world, called to have a tangible imprint on history. Their duty is to transport a light that is articulated in three fundamental dimensions: to love, to see, and to hope. The Holy Father argues that faith is not a technique of avoiding challenges, but rather the ability to see reality and live in truth through God's eyes. From this must emerge a concrete love founded in the sacraments, capable of warming and reconciling. Finally, light is presented as a synonym for hope and new life. The Pope recognized the adversity of the Middle Eastern context, emphasizing that, despite the inability to influence external circumstances, it is always possible to choose the path of the Gospel. The final invitation is to never doubt God's goodness: the Lord's plans are for peace, not misfortune, and intended to ensure a future of rebirth.
