Flavio Cobolli's run at Wimbledon came to an end in the quarter-finals, as the Italian was defeated by Britain's Arthur Fery, who advanced to the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career in front of his home crowd. Fery won the renowned London competition in just over two hours with scores of 6-4, 7-6 (7-4 in the tie-break), and 6-0. Cobolli began the match with good intentions, becoming the first to score a break point in the first set. The Briton, however, averted the threat and broke the Italian's serve at the critical moment, concluding the set at 6-4. In the second set, the Italian started stronger, grabbing a 2-0 lead, but Fery swiftly recovered. The tie lasted until the tie-break, when the home player handled the decisive points with superior clarity, taking a two-point lead. The third set was one-way traffic. After giving up very few service opportunities in the first two sets, Cobolli progressively lost confidence, while Fery pounced on the momentum and won 6-0, bringing the match to an end in 2 hours and 14 minutes. This was the most important achievement of the 23-year-old Briton's career. Prior to Wimbledon, he had never progressed beyond the second round of a Grand Slam tournament and was not even ranked in the top 100 of the ATP rankings, the global ranking for men's tennis. His run on the London grass therefore stands as one of the biggest surprises of this year's tournament. In the semifinals, Fery will face Germany's Alexander Zverev, who defeated American Taylor Fritz in three sets in the quarterfinals.
