Marcell Jacobs will not compete in Monaco. The Olympic 100-meter champion has elected to withdraw from the tenth stage of the Wanda Diamond League, scheduled for this Friday in the Principality. The Italian sprinter's decision was predicated on a minor muscle strain, which served as a warning sign that encouraged him and his coaching staff to refrain from taking unnecessary risks during a critical phase of his preparation. The decision is a prudent strategy for season management, particularly in light of the Fiamme Oro athlete's recent exceptional performance. Jacobs is coming off four top-level races in which he improved his times consistently: from 9.99 in Rome to 9.96 in Paris, as well as spectacular performances in Eisenstadt's windy conditions, where he clocked a 9.84 in his heats (+2.3) and a sensational 9.67 in the final (+4.1). The major goal remains to maintain his physical health ahead of the year's most important event, the European Championships in Birmingham, which will take place from August 10 to 16, when the Italian will compete for a third straight gold medal. There is therefore no cause for alarm, only a strategic pause. His return to competition is already arranged for the weekend of July 25-26 in Florence, when Jacobs will compete as expected in the Italian National Championships.
