With 253,599 firms and 1,133,949 employees, Italy's maritime economy generates €78.9 billion in direct added value. When the value generated in the rest of the economy is taken into account, the total amounts to €224.9 billion, which is equivalent to 11.4% of the national GDP. In comparison to the previous survey, overall added value increased by nearly €9.6 billion. Direct added value has also increased by 3.8%, compared to the national economy's 2.1% growth, representing an annual rise of roughly €2.9 billion. Employment is also expanding, with a 4.2% gain, nearly tripling the growth rate in the Italian economy as a whole. This year's multiplier is consistent at 1.8: for every euro spent in maritime-related sectors, another 1.8 is generated in the rest of the economy. This is the conclusion of the 14th National Report on the Marine Economy, compiled by the National Observatory on the Marine Economy OsserMare, the Tagliacarne Study Center - Unioncamere, Informare, the Frosinone Latina Chamber of Commerce, and the Blue Forum Italia Network, and presented in Rome at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy as part of the Blue Forum 2026.
