Under Giovanni Malagò's leadership, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is experiencing a revolution. With a critical extra-time goal, the federation's new president clinched a global partnership: Paolo Maldini will join the team as Club Italia's new technical director, with Leonardo serving as an advisor. A four-year contract was signed following an intensive discussion that began with major financial and project disputes. Maldini, who preferred the Azzurri challenge to the temptation of a possible return to AC Milan, reunites with his Brazilian teammate, with whom he spent his golden years at the Rossoneri. With technical governance complete, the duo can now focus on the most important issue: selecting a new national team coach. According to initial rumors, Antonio Conte is not one of the two new managers' top choices. While Roberto Mancini remains the most popular and plausible name, a sensational third candidate has not been ruled out. The idea is for Pep Guardiola, who is presently on sabbatical after leaving Manchester City and is set to return in January. Meanwhile, ahead of their Nations League debut against Belgium in September, the Azzurri could be temporarily led by a new manager. The first foundations of the new era, however, have been laid.
