The Carthago Dilecta Est - Tunisie Sailing Week, a famous offshore regatta conducted by the Circolo Velico Ventotene that connects Rome and Carthage, will return in summer 2026. This year's edition marks the twenty-eighth year. The confirmation came later than normal because the organizers preferred to wait for signs of political and social stability on both sides of the Mediterranean, which is considered necessary for an event that spans two countries' waters. The program is organized into five parts, beginning July 31st in Rome-Fiumicino with the "Incontra Ventotene, Isola per l'Europa" regatta, which connects the city to the Pontine island, a symbol of European unity. The main event takes place from August 2nd to August 5th: the Ventotene-Hammamet crossing of the Strait of Sicily. The Yasmine Cup Trophy, which features a round of the Tunisian National Offshore Championship, will be held from August 6th to 7th. This includes the Hammamet-Gammarth (August 8th-9th) and the final Gammarth-Bizerte (August 11th-13th), which will feature gala evenings and awards ceremonies at the participating ports. Sailing cabin cruisers, monohulls, or multihulls at least nine meters long are eligible, as is the classic "for two" formula, which is reserved for crews of two. The Corsaro II, an Italian Navy sailing vessel, is among the first to participate, confirming the institutional significance of an event supported by both countries' embassies, the Farnesina, the Lazio Region, and the national sailing federations, as well as being included in the international World Sailing Calendar. More than a basic competition, the Rome-Carthage route intends to serve as a platform for sporting diplomacy, sending a message of cooperation, peace, and freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean, which is especially important in today's worldwide climate.
