The town of Torricella Peligna, in the Abruzzo region, once again hosts the festival dedicated to one of the greatest Italian-American writers of the twentieth century. From August 20th to August 23rd, the John Fante Festival "My Father's God" focuses on vulnerability, a theme that runs throughout the work of the author of "Ask the Dust" and appears to be more relevant than ever. Four days of talks, literature, and reflections honor John Fante and his deep ties to his Italian heritage. The 21st edition of the John Fante Festival is organized by Giovanna Di Lello and sponsored by the Municipality of the Abruzzo village where the American writer's father, Nicola Fante, was born. The underlying theme for the 2026 edition will be vulnerability, which is a major dimension in Fante's literary universe. Even the most formidable and seemingly invincible characters in his works reveal vulnerability and fear, providing an authentic peek into the complexities of the human experience. A concept that, in an era of social and personal uncertainty, encourages communal meditation on the importance of empathy and awareness. Among the guests expected are Jim Fante and Damian Fante, respectively the writer's son and grandson, who will open the festival. One of the most anticipated events is the national debut of the graphic novel John Fante's Inferno, a comic book biography of the writer and his wife, Joyce Smart Fante.
