Former Croatian international Dario Šimić, known to Italian fans for his long tenure with Inter and AC Milan, has been arrested in Croatia as part of an inquiry into alleged irregularities relating to the development of a tourist campsite in Tisno, an Adriatic seaside town. Croatian media covered the news. According to local media sources, a former director of the regional tourism agency and a businessman were arrested with the former soccer player. The investigation pertains to the issuance of permits that are necessary for the construction of the campsite. Investigators think that between 2020 and 2021, building licenses were issued despite the fact that a portion of the affected area was classed as unbuildable and hence did not comply with Croatian urban planning standards. Investigators are looking into whether the permits were obtained through alleged corruption. The inquiry is still ongoing, and the roles of individuals involved will be decided by judicial authorities. Šimić, 50, is regarded as one of the most famous Croatian defenders of his time. After debuting with Dinamo Zagreb, he moved to Italy in 1999 and played 10 seasons in Serie A, the country's highest professional soccer division. He began his career with Inter Milan, a Milan-based club, and later moved on to AC Milan, another renowned club in the city. With AC Milan, he won some of the most prominent European soccer trophies, including the Italian Serie A championship, the Coppa Italia, and, most notably, two editions of the UEFA Champions League, Europe's best club competition. His trophy collection includes two UEFA Super Cups, one Italian Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. In 2008 he left Italy for Monaco in the French league before ending his playing career with a brief return to Dinamo Zagreb.
