The nomination procedure for the Italian art of shoemaking to be included on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List has officially commenced. The promoting committee, directed by Giovanna Ceolini and made up of Museimpresa, CERCAL, and the Politecnico Calzaturiero, has been formally appointed. The committee, in partnership with Unitelma Sapienza University, will monitor the dossier's creation and practitioner community involvement. The effort has received backing from the supply chain's principal regions—Lombardy, Veneto, Marche, Puglia, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, and Tuscany—with Minister Adolfo Urso at the lead. This news is particularly intriguing due to the fact that the art of Italian shoemaking would be the first in the world to receive UNESCO recognition if the process is effective. Until now, such recognition has only been granted to textile production and not to footwear.
