Digital platforms continue to strengthen their position in Italy's media market, now accounting for 23.3% of total television revenues. Netflix, DAZN, Amazon and Disney+ continue to expand thanks to growing demand for premium content. The country's three leading traditional broadcasters – Rai, Comcast/Sky and Mediaset – still control 67% of the market, with shares of 26.6%, 22% and 18.5%, respectively, but their dominance continues to erode. Television remains the largest segment of the media industry, accounting for 74.1% of traditional media revenues, while the publishing sector has fallen below 21%. Overall, Italy's integrated communications sector is worth €20.4 billion, equivalent to around 0.95% of GDP. Only a few days ago, MFE-MediaForEurope CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi presented the group's new strategy, stressing the company's continued commitment to traditional broadcasting. "First and foremost, we are television broadcasters. We believe in the power of television. We will continue investing in our content," he said. Read alongside the latest market figures, his remarks highlight the growing competition between traditional free-to-air television and streaming platforms.
