On Tuesday, July 14, Cambi Casa d'Aste presented an auction for "Fine Asian Works of Art" at its Milan site on Via San Marco. The sale included nearly 500 objects from prominent private collections, including ceramics, ceremonial bronzes, sculptures, and furniture from China, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia. Collectors were intrigued by a porcelain cup bearing the mark of Chenghua, the 15th century Chinese Emperor. During his reign, manufacture of these things was extremely limited; currently, only around forty examples are known globally, and they are housed in institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Imperial Palace in Taiwan, and the British Museum, with, curiously, none in Beijing's Palace Museum.
