Italy's two leading film festivals have announced their opening films. The 2026 Venice International Film Festival will kick off on September 2 with the world premiere of "Ink", the latest feature by British director Danny Boyle, screening in competition. Boyle, best known for Trainspotting, reunites with actor Jack O'Connell following their collaboration on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The cast also includes Guy Pearce and Claire Foy. Meanwhile, the Rome Film Fest will open on October 14 with Il rumore delle cose nuove, directed by Paolo Genovese, as part of the festival's Grand Public section. Genovese, whose recent hit Follemente was one of Italy's biggest box-office successes of the past year, is also the director of Perfect Strangers, the most remade film in cinema history. His latest feature boasts an ensemble cast including Emanuela Fanelli, Claudia Pandolfi, Vittoria Puccini, Stefano Accorsi, Lino Musella and Edoardo Pesce, with a special appearance by Claudio Santamaria.
