According to Confindustria President Emanuele Orsini, Italian exports are up 3.4%, and the government's €700 billion export aim is "possible". Between January and April 2026, the surplus amounted to €15.2 billion, up from €11.3 billion the previous year. The balance for April alone was €4.3 billion, a considerable increase over the €2.4 billion recorded in April 2025. It should be highlighted that the surplus is completely due to trade with non-EU nations, and that it fell somewhat in May to €3.8 billion from €5.4 billion the previous year, owing to a recovery in imported energy costs (+63.6%). Who buys Italian products? The most dynamic markets are Switzerland, the United States, and China: in March, exports to Switzerland increased by 84.6% and to China by 23.5%, while exports to the United States increased by only 1.6%, indicating that the American front remains the most weak in the face of tariffs and uncertainties.
