Sea turtle nesting continues along Italy's coastlines, with Sicily's beaches once again proving the preferred destination for these remarkable marine reptiles. The WWF volunteer network in Sicily has secured and preserved 80 nests to date, and beach monitoring continues to look for obvious indicators of new nesting. LIFE Adapt, a five-year European project involving eight partners in Italy, Greece, and Cyprus, is tracking certain Caretta caretta turtles using GPS technology. The project's goal is to investigate the climate change resistance of three iconic Mediterranean species: the loggerhead sea turtle, the green sea turtle, and the Mediterranean monk seal. The major goal is to create strategies for protecting vital habitats at sea and along the shore.
