Felice Maniero had a commanding presence in the Northeast, where he committed a lengthy list of crimes, including robberies, bank and armored vehicle robberies (including the sensational 1990 robbery that resulted in the death of a young student from Treviso), murders, arms trafficking, and drug trafficking, all of which were conducted in the presence of the mafia. Now that the former head of the Mala del Brenta, who is nearly 72 and suffering from depression, has retired and is in a retirement home, he has returned to the spotlight with the discovery of a significant fortune linked to him: the Guardia di Finanza has seized assets worth €2 million from the laundering of his earnings. They also seized properties (two villas in Fucecchio and Lucca), five luxury cars, priceless jewelry and paintings, bank accounts, €90,000 in cash, and fifteen costly Rolex and Cartier watches kept in safety deposit boxes at two Empoli banks. The Special Currency Police Unit's investigations began with statements provided by Maniero himself while cooperating with the authorities.
