The number of migrants arriving by sea in Italy has fallen sharply. Since the beginning of the year, 16,003 migrants have landed on Italian shores, compared with 33,999 during the same period last year and 31,406 in 2024, according to figures released by the Ministry of the Interior. The total number of individuals arriving by boat in Italy in July was 1,615. Last year, there were 6,487 for the full month, compared to 7,465 in 2024. Based on their declarations upon disembarking, 4,426 Bangladeshi nationals (27.6%) are among the more than 16,000 migrants who arrived in Italy in 2026. The remaining migrants are from Somalia (1,861, 11.6%), Sudan (1,412, 8.8%), Algeria (1,243, 7.8%), Pakistan (1,211, 7.6%), Egypt (1,015, 6.3%), Eritrea (768, 4.8%), Tunisia (708, 4.4%), Mali (347, 2.2%), Nigeria (312, 2%), Ivory Coast (236, 1.5%), Ethiopia (226, 1.4%), Iran (197, 1.2%), South Sudan (186, 1.2%), and Guinea (186, 1.2%). Additionally, 1,669 individuals (10.4%) from other countries are included.
