On July 21, SURE (SUperconducting - REliability & Efficiency) was officially launched as a project resulting from an agreement between the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and ASG Superconductors, a Genoa-based company of the Malacalza group. The goal is to create a superconducting cable capable of transporting enormous amounts of electrical energy with little losses and a low environmental effect for future data centers. Currently, a large percentage of the investment necessary to create a data center must be redone every few years to adapt the electrical infrastructure to the fast increasing computer capacity and accompanying energy requirements. The new superconducting power network may assist reduce these interventions, increasing the infrastructure's flexibility and long-term viability.
