Portugal has announced the procurement of three FREMM EVO frigates from Fincantieri. The agreement, which was executed during a meeting between Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, pertains to the provision of equipment to the Portuguese Navy, with funding provided by European SAFE funds. The vessels will be delivered between 2029 and 2030. The announcement comes at a time when the Italian defense industry is experiencing high activity, with the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 taking place in the United Kingdom. Leonardo has signed a contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense to supply 12 M-346F Block 20 light attack fighters to the Air Force. The company also announced the completion of the LBA Systems joint venture with Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar, which is now fully operational. At Farnborough, Baykar unveiled the Astore Levante drone—a customised version of the TB-3, developed specifically for the European, NATO and Italian markets and currently being manufactured at Leonardo's plant in Ronchi dei Legionari.
