Italy has made aggregated waste-tracking data publicly accessible in real time through a new platform launched by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) on the RENTRI portal. The system provides information on waste generated, transported, and processed by businesses required to register with the National Electronic Waste Tracking Register. The platform displays statistical data on both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, compiled from information submitted electronically by registered operators. Users can filter results by geographic area, waste category, and treatment method, while ensuring that no data identifying individual companies is disclosed. "This is not merely a tool to digitalize administrative procedures," Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said. "It is a strategic infrastructure that strengthens our understanding of waste flows, improves environmental policymaking, and supports businesses and local communities in the transition toward a more circular, efficient, and secure economy".
