Two months after the launch of the 13th edition of the FAI – Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano ("Italian Environment Fund") Places of the Heart campaign, supported by Intesa Sanpaolo, the provisional rankings reveal a different side of Italy, highlighting little-known landscapes and historic landmarks far from the country's busiest tourist destinations. These places preserve an extraordinary environmental and cultural heritage that is often overlooked yet remains central to Italy's identity and deserving of protection and restoration. The current top ten includes Lame di Puglia (Bari), the Rock Caves of Verzino (Crotone), the Renacavata Capuchin Friary in Camerino, Villa San Leonardo al Palco in Prato, the Sanctuary of the Seven Churches in Monselice, Cascina Monluè in Milan, San Michele Bridge in Paderno d'Adda, the Convent of San Domenico in Taggia, the Church of San Giovanni in Portogruaro, and the Benedictine Abbey of Saints Nicholas and Paul VI in Rodengo Saiano. Nearly 100 local committees, associations, municipalities, parishes, and schools are already collecting votes, either to raise awareness of their favorite site or to reach the 3,000-vote threshold required to apply for restoration funding once the campaign closes. The top three sites will be eligible for grants of €70,000, €60,000, and €50,000, subject to the submission of conservation or enhancement projects. Since mid-May, more than 350,000 votes have been cast, including over 62,000 paper ballots received by FAI before July 6.
