From Pompeii's timeless ruins to popular culture iconography. Until November 30, the Archaeological Park welcomes Philip Colbert in Pompeii: Pop Mythology, the greatest work ever made by the British artist, who is often regarded as Andy Warhol's heir. A peaceful invasion of more than thirty monumental sculptures transforms the archeological site into an unexpected dialogue between antiquity, contemporary art, and the future. The exhibition will not only feature the excavations but also other significant locations in the region, including Oplontis, Boscoreale, and Longola, the protohistoric site that was severely damaged by arson a few weeks ago. The show's star is The Lobster, Colbert's famed artistic alter ego for many years. Colorful bronze-patina works and stainless steel sculptures will emerge among the columns, arches, and remnants of the ancient city. Additionally, a new series of monumental black steel figures, which are proposed as "mythological relics of the future", will envision an archaeology that has yet to come. Pop Mythology is a reflection on the themes of memory, devastation, and rebirth, and is inspired by the renowned marine mosaic from the House of the Faun, which is currently located at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. This voyage culminates in Longola, where one of the works will be displayed as a mark of proximity to a wounded land.
