Despite rising prices—inflation rose 3% year on year in June—and diminishing household budgets, there are some "incidental" charges that Italians simply cannot avoid. Facile.it, a company that serves as a comparison, promotion, and brokerage site for insurance, financial products, electricity, gas, fiber optics, and long-term car rental rates, commissioned this survey, carried out by mUp Research, to provide a snapshot. The report identified expenses that Italians are hesitant to forego, ranging from restaurants to shopping, travel to technology, cigarettes, and gambling. The poll, which was performed on a representative sample of the Italian adult population, asked a very precise question: What are the "incidental" expenses that have the largest impact on your wallet and are difficult to avoid? Nearly one in every two Italians (42.3%), or 15.6 million people, enjoys fine food and cannot avoid dining out. Travel comes in second, with 8.9 million people (25.1%) unable to resist packing their bags and traveling to other nations. Cigarettes come in third position, with 16.7% of respondents, or over 5.7 million Italians, confessing to devoting a considerable portion of their budget to this "bad habit". Four million people (12.1%) struggle to say no to shopping. 3.9 million (11.8%) agreed to being unable to resist technology advances, while 3.2 million (9.9%) claimed to spend a fortune on personal care. A stunning 2.3 million Italians can't stop playing games, lotteries, and betting.
