In Italy too, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has had a remarkable impact not only in cinemas but also in bookshops. The Odyssey's sales increased by 25.4% in the first half of 2026, while its total value increased by 36%. An early indication of this occurred following the release of the first teaser on December 22, 2025. Between December 2025 and January 2026, unit sales increased by 12.4% over the same two-month period in 2024 and 2025, while value increased by 21.4%. The increase grew more noticeable with the second trailer, which debuted on May 4. In that month, sales climbed by 46% compared to May 2025, while sales value increased by 58%. This dynamic, which was also observed in the United States, demonstrates the audiovisual medium's power to revitalize works that are already in publishing catalogs. Indeed, a Netflix-commissioned study found that in the four weeks after the premiere of a series or film based on a book, sales of the titles involved soared by an average of 197%. With classics like "The Odyssey", the effect is much more widespread: instead of leading audiences to a single official edition, it revitalizes a layered inventory of translations, school editions, rewrites, illustrated adaptations, and versions directed at different age groups. This tendency was recently observed with "Wuthering Heights": the film, too, served as a multiplier for bookstore sales.
