On paper, he was a high-profile fugitive in transnational crime, hunted across Europe for international vehicle theft and large-scale money laundering. Under the sun of Punta Giglio in Alghero, however, he posed as just an ordinary tourist enjoying Sardinia's crystal-clear waters aboard a jet ski. The golden getaway of the 40-year-old Polish man came to a sudden end when he was intercepted by a maritime patrol of the Guardia di Finanza.
The officers, conducting routine vessel inspections along the coastline, pulled alongside his jet ski for a standard check. The man gave himself away through his behavior: visibly nervous, hostile, and unwilling to answer basic questions, he prompted officers to take him in for further verification. At the station, cross-checks with Interpol and joint police databases uncovered his true identity, revealing an active European Arrest Warrant for multiple car theft and smuggling offenses.
