Roberto Mancini has returned as head coach of the Italian national team and opened his first press conference of his second spell in charge, held at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) headquarters in Rome, by addressing the question that had been on the minds of most Italian fans: "Regarding the incident three years ago, there was a lack of communication with President Gravina. If we had spoken, we could have clarified the matter. I am deeply sorry; for me, it is like losing the love of my life". Mancini then underscored that the Italy jersey "has always been very important to him" and that "luck" and "the opportunity" offered to him by the new FIGC president Giovanni Malagò have afforded him a second chance. He stated, "I'll try to bring the national team back to where it deserves to be", demonstrating his determination to "win a trophy or two" in the coming years, in order to reverse the trend that has characterized Italian men's soccer for years, particularly in the World Cup.
