August is gradually disappearing from the Italian holiday calendar. This is supported by a recent Facile.it study focused on summer 2026, which discovered that fewer than 40% of travelers choose the central month for their vacation. The inclination to circumvent seasonal peaks is primarily due to the increasing costs: the average per person expenditure, which encompasses transportation and lodging, is €939. To cover these expenses without overburdening the family budget, many people have turned to personal loans, with disbursements totaling almost €170 million in the first five months of the year. Despite limited budgets and an average vacation length of 11 days, Italy remains the most popular destination, with Spain, Greece, and France dominating overseas European locations. In terms of lodging, vacation homes (which are selected by 7.6 million individuals) are frequently chosen as a cost-effective alternative, while family homes are the most prevalent. Past experience and word-of-mouth are important factors in destination selection, while social media has a minimal influence (9.7%). Finally, when it comes to transportation, the vehicle reigns supreme with 55.5% of preferences, led by the 45-54 age group. The plane comes in second (30.7%), indicating that it is the favored mode of transportation among young people.
