Original screenplays, props, costumes, and even letters were swapped with producers to determine film titles. Martin Scorsese is prepared to donate his complete archive to the Italian Ministry of Culture. If negotiations are effective, the American director would be presenting a gift to the country of his parents, who immigrated to the United States from Sicily. However, it would also be a gift to the cinematic tradition, which "shaped my understanding of cinema and my work", as Scorsese conceded. Still, this is not the first tribute the Taxi Driver filmmaker has paid to Italy in the last few years; he also recently accepted the presidency of the David di Donatello jury, Italy's most prestigious cinema award. In previous years, he donated his archive to the Bologna Film Archive, which today includes a selection of Scorsese screenplays used at festivals and other events.
