Italian company Leonardo has signed the first series-production contract for the Centauro II with the Brazilian Army, under the Programa Estratégico Forças Blindadas, for the Viatura Blindada de Combate de Cavalaria Média Sobre Rodas project. The agreement calls for the provision of seven 8x8 wheeled vehicles mounted with a 120 mm main gun, representing the first batch of a 98-unit program that will be completed in annual installments. The signing comes after the successful completion of operational tests and the delivery of two vehicles from the initial evaluation batch, indicating the shift from testing to full production. The Centauro II is still the only vehicle in service today that can integrate a 120 mm armament on a wheeled platform, making it a global benchmark for large-caliber wheeled anti-tank armored vehicles. The vehicle is already in service with the Italian Army, which has contracted 150 units, and its introduction into the Brazilian market expands the program's worldwide reach as well as the Italian defense industry's export opportunities.
