A horrible weekend for Italian motorsport, defined by two major incidents within hours of each other, which killed three people. The most tragic accident occurred in Sicily during the Trapani-Monte Erice Hill Climb, a race in the Italian Historic and Classic Car Championship. A Peugeot 308 TCR driven by racer Marco Nicoletti suddenly left the road and struck spectators: two young spectators, aged 18 and 20, died, one at the scene and the other in hospital, while a race marshal was admitted to intensive care. The competition was immediately suspended. Another dramatic event occurred a few hours earlier in Liguria, at the Rally Val D'Aveto in Genoa's surroundings. During a special stage, a car flipped, killing the 40-year-old co-driver instantaneously.
