The Italian startup landscape in artificial intelligence applied to robotics is currently undergoing a period of significant turmoil. Among the prominent players is Generative Bionics, a spinoff of the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa directed by Daniele Pucci, which, following a €70 million seed investment, unveiled the first prototype of a humanoid robot with sensorized tactile skin. Oversonic Robotics, a cognitive robotics firm based in Lombardy, was created by Paolo Denti and Fabio Puglia, the designers of Robee, a humanoid robot that is already in use in industrial and healthcare applications. STMicroelectronics became interested in the project and purchased a stake in the company in the most recent financing round. At the same time, the use of generative AI in the fashion industry is expanding: Milan-based PixelModa employs artificial intelligence to create millions of images and videos for luxury brands, using a hybrid technology that generates 10% monthly growth while drastically lowering production costs: a sign of how Italian AI is finding fertile ground at the intersection of deep tech and Made in Italy.
