The case of Giovanni Malagò and his alleged failure to register with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has taken a dramatic turn. Sergio Taucer, the Attorney General for Sport, has denied the request for dismissal submitted by Giuseppe Chinè, the head of the Federal Prosecutor's Office, asking for a formal explanation on the probe. The report was sent to Chinè and, for information, to CONI president Luciano Buonfiglio. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) Prosecutor's Office is currently preparing to deliver the needed clarifications. Chinè's position in favor of dismissal is based on an interpretation of the Federal Statute that was already adopted for Gabriele Gravina two years ago. As per this interpretation, the phrase "being in good standing with the membership" does not necessitate the possession of a membership card at the time of application, a requirement that Malagò, like his predecessors, did not possess. Rather, it necessitates compliance with the requirements for individuals who already possess one. The case is now in the hands of the Sports Justice.
